St Louis Carpenters Union Sues Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council Over Billboard Contracts

contractor home remodel

St. Louis's carpenters union has a troubled history with dealings with local politicians and members of the business community. Al Bond was a former apprentice carpenter. This scandal is the latest. Bond allegedly misused the contract process and used union money to finance his personal expenses. Bond was fired from the union. The union has also had issues with Billboard contracts, and the lack thereof of oversight.

Al Bond's life as an apprentice carpenter was a highlight of his career.

Al Bond was a carpenter union worker in St. Louis for many years. He was elected to the labor council, and later elected to the top executive post. Since then, he has become an important member of the union, having served as its vice president and business representative/organizer. He was also active in local politics. Through its PAC, he contributed thousands to local candidates. The union supported unsuccessful plans to consolidate city-county government, privatize an airport, and merge it. He was elected to St. Louis' labor council in 2011 and elected to Carpenters Local 5 where he served as president of the union for 11 years.

Although Americans are focused on Donald Trump's election win, many unions have taken steps for workers' rights. Missouri has an innovative program called "Career Connections" that is available to high school and college students. Career Connections is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with local high schools to promote the career of carpentry. It allows high school and college students to gain experience while attending college without incurring debt.

Interrail and billboard contracts

Al Bond, the former president of Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council, has been sued to stop the union taking advantage of the boom in construction. Bond, the former head of the St. Louis-based council was a signer on billboards with Interrail for $4 million. The union claims the agreement was illegal, and that the union made a profit from it.

In September, United Brotherhood of Carpenters was the union's parent and fired Bond. Bond, his team and the union's management were fired by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters in response to the lawsuit. He moved to Chicago to open a new office. The Mid-America Regional Council of Carpenters was created to replace the old organization. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court of Missouri.

Use union funds to cover personal expenses

Carpenters Pension Trust Fund of St. Louis consists of a defined benefit pension fund that is multi-employer and has defined benefits. It was established in 1969 by the Carpenters union and 3 local building trades organizations. Members contribute a set amount of money each hour they work into this fund, which is distributed on vacation checks. It is important that you note that this fund does not pay for personal expenses. It is intended for Carpenters to receive retirement benefits and death benefits.

Bond is accused of using funds from the St. Louis Carpenters Union for personal expenses. It also claims Bond entered into questionable advertising agreements. A spokesman for the union did not respond to requests of comment. Boehms, a vice president at Interface Construction, did not return messages for comment. A spokesman for the union did not return messages regarding questions about Boehms' salary or personal expenses.

Interrail contract oversight not up to par

Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council (Chicago-based affiliate of St. Louis carpenters union) has been accused in stealing assets from St. Louis council. The St. Louis Council was one the most important and influential unions in the area, which negotiated labor agreements for construction workers. But the union has denied the allegations. Bond's attorney has declined to comment.

The bond also alleges that the St. Louis carpenters union failed to properly oversee contracts with Interrail, Foxpoint, and other construction companies. The bond alleges that six people in the St. Louis office complained about the situation to national union officials. The union's financial records show that it had $3.6 billion in assets last year, despite the lack of oversight over the contracts.
